Getting started with Bricks Health

Before you install

WordPress 6.5 or newer
PHP 8.1 or newer
Bricks verified on the 2.3 and 2.4 lines
Theme Bricks must be the active theme

WordPress will warn you by itself if the WordPress or PHP versions are too low. It cannot warn you about Bricks, because Requires Bricks is not a header WordPress understands, so that one is worth checking yourself.

Bricks Health does not refuse to run on a Bricks version we have not verified. It keeps scanning and scoring exactly as normal, and switches Smart Fixes to read-only until we have checked that version, so nothing on your site is written by a build we have not tested.

Install the plugin

  1. Get the .zip. If you’ve bought a license, it’s on your order page or in the receipt email. If you haven’t, download the same file free from the Bricks Health page, no key or signup needed.
  2. In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the .zip, and click Install Now.
  3. Click Activate.

There’s one build, not two. The free tier lives inside the plugin, so activating a license later unlocks the copy you already installed.

Run your first scan

You don’t need a license for this part.

  1. Open Bricks Health → Dashboard and click Run scan.
  2. The scan reviews your Bricks content across five areas, design, classes, responsive, performance, and accessibility, and calculates your Website Health Score.
  3. Work through the findings from most to least severe. Each one explains why it matters and, where possible, offers a one-click Smart Fix.

What you see without a license

The scan itself is never limited: it covers your whole site, and the score, the per-audit scores, the issue counts and your design-system totals are all the real figures.

What’s held back is the detail of each finding. The list shows every issue it found and how serious each one is, but the titles and descriptions of locked findings never leave the server, they aren’t hidden in the page for you to dig out. Your worst finding at each severity level, in every audit, is unlocked in full, with a working Smart Fix on each, so you can see exactly what the advice is like. Those are yours for the life of the site, not a fresh set each scan: once a finding is unlocked it stays unlocked, and that slot is spent.

Your design system is counted for you either way, how many variables, classes, components, palette colors, fonts and theme styles exist and how many are unused. The itemised lists behind those numbers need a license.

Activate your license

  1. Open Bricks Health in the WordPress admin menu.
  2. Paste the license key from your order page or receipt email (where to find it).
  3. Click Activate.

Every finding from the scans you’ve already run is revealed the moment the key validates. There’s no need to scan again.

Your plan decides how many sites one key covers, Solo one site, Studio five, Agency unlimited. The License panel shows where you stand (“Activated on 2 of 5 sites”). A WordPress multisite network counts as one site, however many subsites it has.

New versions appear automatically under Plugins while your license is active. Free installs update by downloading the current .zip and uploading it again.

If your license lapses

Bricks Health doesn’t lock you out of your own data, and it doesn’t stop working, it falls back to the free tier. While a license is missing or expired:

  • Still open in full: everything you scanned while licensed. Those findings never re-seal, and undo is never gated, so a lapsed license can’t strand you with a change you can’t reverse.
  • Still running: new scans, in free mode, with your score, your counts and the per-audit samples.
  • Paused: Smart Fixes on your licensed findings, and automatic updates.

Renew, then click Check again in the License panel to resume immediately rather than waiting for the daily check.

Moving a license to another site

If activation is refused because your plan’s sites are all in use, open the License panel on the site you’re retiring and click Deactivate, that frees the seat. No longer have access to that site? Email support@builtforbricks.com with your order number and we’ll release it for you. Don’t send us the key itself, we don’t need it.

If the site simply can’t reach our licensing server for a while, an outage, a firewall, an offline staging box, nothing happens straight away: the last known-good state is honoured for 14 days before anything pauses.

About Smart Fixes

Every fix takes a snapshot of your page before changing anything, verifies the result, and can be undone cleanly from the history panel. Fixes only ever touch the elements in the finding, nothing else on your page changes. A new install starts read-only: the first fix you apply asks you to turn writing on, in one action, and until then nothing is written at all.
